Lilia sola regunt lunam unda castra leonem

Marina Delas - 2024

Limited edition of 16 prints

A reimagining of the Bordeaux city coat of arms. In Latin, the motto Lilia sola regunt lunam unda castra leonem translates to: "The lilies alone rule over the moon, the waves, the castle, and the lion". The leopard, inherited from the heraldry of Aquitaine, proudly overlooks the Grosse Cloche, what remains of the former city hall. Beneath them lies the crescent moon, symbolizing the Port de la Lune (Moon Harbour) and evoking the curve of the Garonne River that shaped the city's history.
